2 years down, the rest of our lives to go!

>> Friday, July 30, 2010

This was the status I put on my Facebook. On Monday July 19, Jason & I celebrated our 2 year anniversary. It's been one hell of a second year of marriage and we are so thankful to have made it through. Through lost jobs and financial difficulties, we have come through the year from hell just as close as ever. God may test us, but He has been good to us.

We decided to try out The Vineyards, which is a little restaurant not too far from our home. Since we are still in our "scrimp" mode, we didn't go crazy on the food and wine. We both had the Salmon Crema, which consisted of grilled salmon brushed with pesto atop a bed of linguine. It was wonderful. The salad we had beforehand was simply divine. They have a special olive oil dressing made with poblano peppers, feta cheese, cilantro and a few other things. I know it sounds like an odd combination, but it was one of the best dressings I have ever had! That's saying a lot because I typically don't like many dressings at all. After dinner, I had a glass of Taylor Fladgate 20 Year Tawny Port and Jason had the 10 year. Mine was worth the extra $5 by far. The best part? We were overpoured! As we enjoyed our wine, our waitress encouraged us to walk the grounds. We walked down the stairs - carefully, I might add - and then under the rose-and-grapevine-covered walkway.

Check out the grapevines wrapping the rose stems:

We then took the opportunity to take an obligatory self-portrait:

Then we walked through some rosebushes and I tried to get a picture at night (not too successful):

At night, the spiders come out so we really had to watch out for webs in our face! On our short walk, we also saw two restaurant kitties (yes, they had food dishes) and a toad hiding from us:

As we headed back into the restaurant, our waitress caught us as the door and offered to take our picture for us outside. I thought that was so nice! So here are two of the pictures. Sidenote: Jason had already finished his wine, so she refilled it with the house wine so his glass wouldn't look empty!

When we went in to pay the bill, there was only one other couple left. Somehow, we started talking as we toured the rest of the building and it turns out that they were married exactly 2 years ago, too! And the husband's name was Jason! We were at the restaurant for a couple hours, but it didn't feel long at all. We really enjoyed taking our time and we weren't rushed at all. It was such a wonderful night for both of us. So again, happy anniversary to us (and to Jason & Lacey in Houston, TX!)!!

Anybody remember that skit from Sesame Street? That was one of my favorite skits as a kid. Ranks right up there with the Egypt pyramid one. Yeah, I'm a Bert & Ernie lover. I refuse to believe all the rumors. They're just friends people!

Anyway, tomorrow I'll be going on our annual fishing trip to Port O'Conner. You may remember one of my first posts about last year's trip in which we didn't catch a darn thing. There aren't even any pictures to see because there was absolutely nothing going on. I hope that this year will be different. We were originally supposed to leave this morning, but a cold front (read: upper 60s) blew in and our guide said the water would be very rough. We decided to fish Saturday and Sunday instead. I think my stomach will thank me later. Please wish me luck!

Also, please don't forget my blogiversary request! I'd love to see more positive things come from my list! Have a great weekend everyone!

Happy Blogiversary!

>> Thursday, October 8, 2009

Exactly one year ago today, I put my fingers to the keyboard and started blogging. I can hardly believe I even made it a year! Looking back at my first post, I wanted to start this blog to hold myself accountable for the things I do in my daily life. I think I've fared somewhat well. I've fallen off the map the past month because of my self-induced depression due to my jobless-stay-at-home-wife situation and my now nearly-jobless-stay-at-home-husband situation.

It's been tough. I haven't blogged much about it because I don't like to admit how unhappy I can be at times. But aside from that, there are lots of positives in my life right now. To make myself feel better and just because I feel like it, I'm going to count them:

  1. I have a wonderful husband who loves me more than his truck. Ha!
  2. I have a great family support network that also loves me so, so much.
  3. I have friends that are amazing. Thank God for them or I'd go crazy sometimes.
  4. I have a vehicle that runs great even if the paint job is looking shoddy. I've put all 119,000 miles on my Sunfire myself!
  5. I have a nice home. I may get irritated that it still needs a lot of paint, but it's still a nice home that I love.
  6. I have a decent amount of savings that is keeping my husband & I afloat right now. Sure, it hurts to see the bank account drained slowly, but we are able to pay our bills.
  7. I am still able to make my gym payment and can slowly see the results of my hard work when I look in the mirror.
  8. Even though we have cut back on our spending significantly, we still eat well and healthy every day.
  9. I have a good education.
  10. I still have my Uverse and DVR. That is a blessing when I'm home with nothing to do!
As you can see, I use this blog as my own motivator. Has it made me money? No. Has it made me famous? Most certainly not. Do I intend to become either? Not through this blog!

Although I don't have any special give-a-ways, I do have a request for my blogiversary. I would love to challenge each of my readers to write a similar list of the positives in your life. Let me know you've done so through the comment section. If you're feeling extra sweet, link back to me in your blog. If you don't blog, leave a comment with a positive in your life. I'd love to see how many readers I can actually get to do this!

Thanks again for reading me and I hope the next year brings great things!
