Ten on Tuesday

>> Tuesday, August 10, 2010

Almost forgot! Here's Ten on Tuesday for y'all:

1. Do you have an innie or an outie?
Innie

2. What kind of milkshake do you order?
Chocolate....mmmmm.....it's been a long time since I've had one.

3. How often do you repeat outfits at work?
About once a week. I'm pretty low on clothes right now.

4. What are your feelings about thank you notes?
I like them and should probably write more of them.

5. Do you like spicy food?
I LOVE spicy food!

6. How many toilet paper squares do you use?
I have no idea. I take enough to make a good wad. I know I'm an overuser of toilet paper, but I'm pretty crazy about being and feeling clean.

7. Were you in Girl Scouts?
Yes, I made it to Junior Girl Scout. I didn't go to Cadettes because I decided that sports would be more fun.

8. Notebooks/Journals: College ruled? Wide Ruled? No lines? Spiral Bound? Plain front? Decorative?
When it was for school, I likes spiral-bound, college-ruled notebooks. Now, I don't care what the rule it, but I still prefer spiral-bound.

9. Do you snack throughout the day? What do you pack for snacks?
I really like to, but it's hard with my current job. I usually do try to pack snacks; usually a granola bar, fruit or almonds.

10. What is your favorite month? Why?
December, because I love all the hustle and bustle of Christmastime.

It's time for 10 on Tuesday again!

1. What is your current favorite television show? Since it's the summer, my fave is The Closer. I've been following it since the first episode and I love it!
2. Apple juice or orange juice? Definitely apple
3. It’s Shark Week on Discover Channel. Do you watch? Why or why not? I don't watch mainly because I had no idea it was shark week. Now I choose not to watch it because I'm not interested.
4. What are the non-blog websites that you visit regularly? Some news site for Dear Abby, local news, Facebook
5. What is your favorite way to prepare green beans? Asparagus? Potatoes? Carrots? My favorite way is for someone else to prepare them! Ha! I love green bean casserole, I don't care much for asparagus, I like potatoes baked with a bit of butter and I like my carrots raw or in a soup.
6. What is your favorite flower? Roses and tulips. That's right, I picked two.
7. How do you feel about handkerchiefs? Nostalgic. I have a bag full of my great-grandma's handkerchiefs. Some of them are so beautiful. I should really figure out some way to display them.
8. If you could only shop at 3 stores for the rest of your life, what would they be? (You probably should include a grocery store.) HEB (because it's cheaper than Whole Foods), Nordstrom (it has everything) and Home Depot/Lowes (whatever is around). That way, I have food, clothes and tools and appliances.
9. If you could only use wine for one purpose for the rest of your life, which would you choose? To cook with or to drink? Drink....duh. What a dumb question. Who the hell would choose to COOK with wine rather than DRINK it?
10. What’s your bedtime? I try for 11, but don't get to bed most nights until 12.

It's been awhile since I've done a 10 on Tuesday, so here goes!

1. How do you take your coffee on an average day? How do you like your coffee if you’re spluging? I don't take coffee on an average day. Sometimes in the winter I'll calorie-splurge and get a caramel macchiato, but it's more for the sugar high than the caffeine.
2. What is your genre of books to read? I'll read just about anything. I have been into things that apply to my life lately, such as health books.
3. Where do you want to retire, if you could go anywhere? Somewhere near family, the coast and with lots of land and no neighbors.
4. The 17-year-old you is told to write a 10-minute speech. What topic would you have picked? Oh goodness. The 17-year-old me would have stressed about it because teenage me was not a public speaker. I don't have a clue what I would have spoken about. I couldn't tell you what 31-year-old me would choose.
5. What word describes you best? Perfectionist. I hate to fail and I am extremely hard on myself.
6. What is the next “event” that you are looking forward to? (ex.: vacation, moving, date, job change, etc) Jason starting his new job on Monday. Then, setting a vacation date.
7. Do you like to discuss controversial topics or do you prefer to avoid those types of conversations? For the most part, I avoid controversial topics because they always get heated and I get uncomfortable.
8. Would you rather add 4 free hours to each day, or add 1 extra day to the week? That depends on whether the extra day was also free. If so, I'll take the extra day as long as it's part of my weekend.
9. If you created a sports team; what would your colors and mascot be? Something ridiculous, like Pink and Blue Redfish.
10. If you had to be a teacher, what subject would you teach? Realistically, science. But I would love to also teach business.

Ten on Tuesday from Roots and Rings:

1. What is your favorite piece of furniture in your house?
Our bedroom furniture. The mattress is nice and comfy, the bed is king-sized so both of us ridiculously tall folk can sleep well. Plus, the mirror on our dresser is tall enough for Jason!
2. If it was raining so hard on a Saturday that you couldn’t leave your house, what would you spend the day doing?
Probably reading on the couch with the cat in my lap.
3. What was your favorite candy as a child?
Lemonheads
4. Did you get an allowance? What was it based on? What did you do with it?
I know that I got an allowance based on chores, but I really don't remember how much it was since it was sporatic. I probably saved it all because I was a tightwad.
5. Do you have a favorite Etsy store?
Nope
6. Do you prefer time with family or time with friends?
Family. We don't see each other enough.
7. Looney Tunes, Tiny Toons, or Animaniacs?
Looney Tunes!
8. Best daytime talk show: Oprah, Ellen, The Doctors, Tyra (ha!), Dr. Oz, or Dr. Phil?
I guess Ellen. I don't really watch any of them.
9. Would you rather have the power of invisibility or the ability to fly?
The ability to fly. It sounds much more fun.
10. Name 1 thing you love about being an adult.
Marriage.

Hey, it's 11:00pm. It's still technically Tuesday! Better late than never!

Ten on Tuesday from Roots and Rings!

1. If your name was a verb, what would “to Stephanie” mean? (Insert your own name though…)
To rock something out! For instance, I totally Stephanied those shoulder pads with my leg warmers!

2. What myth have you always wanted to prove or bust?
That you can't go backwards in time, only forwards. Oh wait, maybe Stephen Hawking has already done that? Did I lose anyone with that one?

3. If you had the ability to get a message out to the entire world, what would you say?
Huzzah! Just kidding. How about letting the entire world know that Stephanie has now become a verb?

4. I know you’ve answered a similar question before, but it’s been awhile. Please name your current top 10 blogs.
Um....read my blog list. I don't really play favorites. Plus, with my time so much more limited nowaways, I don't really read as many as I used to.

5. Do you have a junk drawer?
Yes, it's in the kitchen with random household stuff. Jason also calls my nightstand drawer a junk drawer.

6. Bottled water or tap?
Tap so I don't waste the plastic.

7. As a kid, did you have a favorite Biblical story?
Noah's ark was always a good one. I also liked the Zaccheus story from the "Zaccheus was a wee little man" song.

8. What is your favorite black and white movie?
I don't really have one. There's some cool ones that I've seen, but they're pretty random. "The Parent Trap",  "Memphis Bell". "Young Frankenstein" and "Gone With the Wind" come to mind on my list of black and white movies that I've seen.

9. Aside from your engagement/wedding rings, what is your favorite piece of jewelry that you own? Does it have a story behind it?
I have a lot of jewelry, so it's hard to pinpoint specific pieces that are my absolute favorite. I have several from my grandmother that are especially sentimental. I have a locket that bears her initials that she gave to me when I was in high school. She wore it when she was in high school so many years before me. The locket was originally her Aunt Amanda's locket and was given to my grandmother when she was old enough to appreciate it. My grandmother and her aunt happened to have the same initials. I like the history behind it; plus, it's really, really old!
10. What sports/activities do you hope your kids will be involved in? (Answer for both a boy and a girl)
I just hope my kids are active. I really enjoyed volleyball, basketball and tennnis. I hope my future children play what makes them happy.

It's Chelsea's Ten on Tuesday!

1.  What two cities should be moved closer together?
San Antonio & Rome. I've always wanted to go to Italy! If the cities were close, I wouldn't have to worry about time changes, jet lag and taking extra time off of work.

2. What was the first plane ride you took?
I took a plane from Corpus to Dallas when I was 13. I was terrified to go by myself, but I really wanted to see my best friend and we hadn't seen each other in years!
3. What continent would you most like to visit?
Africa - we have jungles, beaches and pyramids.
4. What’s your favorite place to window-shop?
Pottery Barn. I just LOVE their stuff!
5. What’s the least fun you’ve ever had at a place specifically tailored for fun?
When I was in middle school, my parents took our family to Schlitterbahn. I got really sick while I was there and had to sit out most of the rides/slides.

6.  You’re stuck on an island with plenty of food, a companion, and a relatively stress-free lifestyle. What do you say when the rescue ship comes?
I say, "Hooray! Showers!"
7. Which day of the week do you look forward to most?
Since my schedules rotate, it's whatever day I have off that week.
8. What’s your favorite place to enjoy the great outdoors?
Anywhere that Jason is with me. I like exploring new places with him.

9. What’s on your “to do” list this summer?
I don't really have a "to do" list this summer until Jason finds a job. Everything is on hold until that point.

10. Which natural disaster freaks you out the most?
Tornadoes. Thank goodness we don't really get them here. It scares me because there's never enough warning and you could lose everything in an instant.

1. Of your current hobbies, which would you choose to spend more time, money, and effort on? Why?
I think I'd spend more time/money on gardening. There's tons of flowers and landscaping type things I could spend a lot of money on!

2. List the two other hobbies/habitual activies (not chores) besides the one listed above that you regularly do now and didn’t choose in question one.
I guess working out would be my only other hobby. Unless you call home improvement a hobby. I don't. I call it a chore.

3. Why are you spending time on the above two hobbies/habitual activies at all if you really wanted to spend your time on the first one you chose?  …or to put it another way, what are these two hobbies/habitual activities fullfilling that the first one doesn’t if you don’t want to put all your effort into the first hobby?
I think it's pretty obvious what working out fulfills. Gardening just doesn't do the same thing. I think there's way more money that I could spend on gardening rather than working out, which is why I made the above choices.

4. Ready John 3:16 in the bible… In what way does this passage affect you?  What are your feelings towards these words, positively or negatively?
This passage is the very essence of Christianity. It's what I completely, wholly, absolutely believe. The passage makes me sad to know that Jesus gave His life for us, but happy because I know that I will have eternal life through Him one day.

5. M&M’s: nuts, no nuts, or peanut butter?
No nuts, but I'm willing to give those coconut ones a try.

6. Putting away the feeling of pride being a bad thing; what secretly/openly are you proud about yourself?
The rate at which my fingernails grow. It used to annoy me when I was a kid, but now I'm happy to flaunt how long they get. Most of the time I'm just too lazy to trim them down!

7. Given one room in the house to do with what you want, not changing the actual size of the room and with all the money you would need, what would you do, and be specific?  (this can range from bouncy floor, walls & ceilings; to hard wood floor with wood paneling and purple ceiling with a chair; to nothing)
So many possibilities! What I'd really like to do would be to build an outdoor room! I really want a covered back porch with furniture so that I can sit outside without squinting and dying of heat.

8. What’s the next movie you’re going to see?  Not what you’d LIKE to GO see, but the next movie you realistically are going to watch.
In the theater? I haven't a clue. The next movie I want to rent is The Blind Side as soon as it comes out. I really would like to see it.....especially after seeing Sandra Bullock's speech after winning Best Actress.

9. Use the keyboard only and make your best smiley/funny/cool face –> like this! 8^)
I seriously don't get past :). I'm just a little too boring I suppose.

10. What makes you cry? What makes you pray? What makes you laugh?
Apparently, Oscar winner speeches make me cry. And sad movies. And sometimes sad commercials. And a few songs. Nothing makes me pray except myself. I try to pray every night before bed and let God work. Sometimes, it's hard to put all my trust in Him, but he hasn't failed me yet. The hardest part is knowing that sometimes the answer to my prayers is no. Jason makes me laugh every day. He just cracks me up!

Ten on Tuesday from Roots & Rings!

1. If you were given an hour to use a $200 Amazon gift card, what would you buy?

Probably a random list of books. My taste is pretty eclectic. No, I can't name any one in particular because I'm sure it would be totally different knowing I only had an hour to choose.

2. Are there any fairly common foods that you’ve never had?

Probably not.

3. What was your favorite way to use your imagination as a kid?
I'm not really sure how to answer this one. I remember playing Barbies and making up home stories. I also remember playing "pirates" with my sister and brother. We would each stake claim to a tree which became our "ship" and would pretend to shoot canons at each other.

4. What’s your favorite state? Why?
Texas. Duh. Must you ask why? Well, because we've got everything we need here. Beach, mountains, grasslands, woods.......

5. If it was our culture to have our parents choose our spouses, do you think yours would make a good choice?
Yes. They both love Jason, so obviously they have great taste!

6. What’s your favorite herb?
That's a toss-up between basil (fresh) and rosemary.

7. If you could have dinner with one celebrity, who would you choose?
Right now, I'd pick Chelsea Handler. I could use the laughs!

8. What’s your favorite Disney movie?
The Little Mermaid. Hands down. I could probably still recite half the dialog correctly.

9. If you had to listen to the same song over and over for 24 hours, what song would you choose?
That's painful! For some reason, the first song that pops into my head for this is "Deacon Blues" by Steely Dan. It's soft, jazzy and melodic. I'd still be sick of it by the end of 24 hours, but at least it's nice enough to sleep through. Yes, I'm aware that was a pretty random song to choose. Bonus points if you can name the lead singer. (Click here to hear it on Lala- will be a  pop-up window)

10. How do you order your steak?
Medium rare mostly. I really do like it pink/a little red in the middle. Yum. Pure deliciousness.

Another Ten on Tuesday from Roots & Rings.

1. If you could open any type of store/place of business (money is no obstacle), what would you open?
A clothing store that only carries clothes for women 5'10" and over so I could always find things that fit me.

2. If all jobs paid equally, what occupation would you want? Why?
I'm going with Stay at Home Mom, too. (Even though I'm not a Mom. No, not even close.)

3. If you could be any animal in the world, what would you pick? Why?
I always thought tigers were pretty cool. I get to be sneaky and pounce on things and just be awesome. Although, I really like cinnamon so I'm not so sure how good of a tiger I'd be.

4. If offered one “service” free of charge, which would you choose? (chauffeur, maid, personal shopper, chef, etc.)
Definitely a maid service so I wouldn't have to vacuum. Or scrub showers.

5. What is one habit, no matter how hard you try, you just can’t seem to break?
I don't think I really have a habit that I'd try to change. I'm perfectly happy with my weirdness.

6. What is one thing that no matter how many you own, you still love to buy all the time?
Undies....there's never two pairs that are alike!

7. Out of all the game shows (past and present), which would you want to be a participant on and play?
I always wanted to be on the Price is Right so I could play Plinko with Bob Barker! Now, I'd be happy to be in the Cash Cab.

8. If you could play the lead role in any movie that’s already been made, which movie would you pick?
That's a hard one. I don't have the slightest clue.

9. Name 5 things on your bucket list (things you want to do before you die).
This is something that's been on my mind lately! My bucket list has to include visiting the Egyptian pyramids, seeing a total solar eclipse in person and probably go on an African Safari. I haven't thought about much else. If I got to do other cool stuff, then it's just gravy on my mashed potatoes.

10.  Which one of your birthdays was the best? What did you do that day?
I think my 27th birthday was probably the best because that's the night that I got to talk to my now husband Jason all night and had a feeling that my crush on him was mutual!

Because I lurve surveys and you know you want to know more about me, I'm doing Ten on Tuesday again from Roots and Rings!

1. Fill in the blank. Sometimes I wish my life was more ______.Financially stable. Actually, I don't wish that sometimes...it's all the time. Jason & I have worked hard to make financial plans with our lives. We have so many things that we want to do and goals that we are poised to obtain. The fact that we're both unemployed gets in the way of that. Once we get stable again, we'll be fine. Until then, worry, worry, worry. Ugh.

2. How do you cure the hiccups?I take a deep breath and hold it for as long as possible. Spoonfuls of sugar and scaring me DOES NOT WORK.

3. What are three of your favorite indulgences?
Dark chocolate hidden in the pantry. (Guess that's not a secret anymore.)
Crappy TV late at night - it doesn't really matter what show it is, but it has to have drama fo yo mama.
Red, red wine makes me feel so fine! Actually, I don't discriminate when it comes to wine colors.

4. Where is the most exotic place you would like to travel to? The most mundane?
Anywhere where it's not too touristy. The rain forest would be awesome. I also read that there is a total solar eclipse happening on Easter Island this July. What I would give to see one of those in person.....

The most mundane place would just be visiting my hometown - good old Woodsboro, TX.

5. Does having your time planned out stress you or relax you?Relaxes me most of the time. I like to know exactly what I need to do and when to do it for the most part. Schedules and routine are my best friend. If it's thrown off, prepare for a two-year-old-type temper tantrum.

6. What are your favourite fabrics to wear?Whaaaa? The best thing ever is a super soft cashmere sweater. But it's mostly too hot for that. Cotton works, too.

7. Do you sleep through the night?
Normally I do, but for some reason I've gotten up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night for the past two nights in a row (Sorry, TMI). That needed to stop, like, yesterday.

8. When you were younger, what did you think you would be doing at this age? How close is that to what you are doing?Oh my gosh. I thought I'd be married by the time I finished college and be done with having children by the time I was 30. I also thought I'd be on my way to a career in medicine. What rose-colored glasses I must have worn! It's so far from the truth it's not even funny. I married at 29 and haven't had children yet. I'm nowhere near medicine, but I did go on to get my Master's, so I guess I can check "yes" for the higher education part.

9. What has surprised you most about growing up?That I can do things that I didn't think I would do at this age. I went skiing at 30, for one, which I thought I was already too old to learn. I've done a little traveling as well and intend to do much more. You are never too old to try something new!

10. Are you good at keeping secrets?
I'd like to think so. Wanna give me your bank account number?

Ten on Tuesday

>> Tuesday, January 19, 2010

I took this from Faith's blog, but I think she got it from somewhere else. I don't know. Sue me. I just thought this was a fun survey!

1. Favorite book(s) when you were a child and why?
Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, Bruce's Loose Tooth, Lamont the Lonely Monster, The Pokey Little Puppy, The Color Kittens, The Little House on the Prairie series, The Chronicles of Narnia and anything Shel Silverstein or Judy Blume. There's really no good reason for liking these; I just did. I read most of these over and over and over as a kid. I'm sure I've forgotten plenty of others as well.

2. First “grown-up” book you remember reading (i.e. written for adolescents or with adult themes, such as The Outsiders or Catcher in the Rye).
I think it was Little Women. One of my teachers had us read from a huge list of books and that's one that I chose.

3. Favorite movie that came from a book (even if you didn’t read the book and just love the movie).
That's a tough one! The movies are always different than the book...it's never the same. I'm just going to arbitrarily choose The Notebook. The book was absolutely wonderful and the movie was amazing as well.

4. Movie that you loved so much that you WISHED there was a book out so that you could find out more about the movie.
It should come as no surprise that I would choose The Goonies since it's my favorite movie ever. However, I'm not so sure that I really need to know more about it. I think that Gran Torino would have made an interesting book, though.

5. Worst book you’ve ever read?
Is it bad that I have no idea? I'd have to say Blink, even though it was probably a best seller. I had to read it in one of my grad school classes and it just got boring because it's so repetitive. If you read the first chapter, you've read the whole book.

6. Book that everyone raves about that you either a) haven’t read and feel slightly dumb for not having read it or b) have tried to read and hated and so feel slightly dumb that everyone is getting something you don’t.
I guess the Harry Potter series. I've seen all the movies, but I've never read the books. I probably should; everyone always says they're so good and I love the movies......

7. If you were forced to choose only 3 books that you could read for the rest of your life, which ones would they be? (Or if you were stranded on a desert island, which 3 books would you want there with you?).
I really don't like reading books over and over again. I need lots of room. However, I guess I'd choose the Bible (so I would finally read the whole thing), the Little House on the Prairie series (don't even say how lame I am) and The Other Boleyn Girl.

8. Name one book that if you could recommend that everyone you know read, what is it?
Probably The Other Boleyn Girl. It's just that good and a really interesting read. Jason kept trying to read over my shoulder!

9. What is your “guilty pleasure” reading?

Feel good girly stories, but not Harlequin novels. Or chick magazines.

10. What book (excepting the Bible or other major document of your religion/faith) has changed your outlook on life the most?
I don't think I've read anything that significant. I'd really like to read something that monumental.
